Missoula, Mont. - The Fighting Saints Track & Field Team had a strong opening meet at the Al Manuel Open on Saturday.

Brycen Gardner hit the NAIA National Qualifying B Standard in the 3000m Steeplechase. It was his fastest opening Steeple to date and earned him his third consecutive trip to the Outdoor National Championships.

Multiple Saints set personal records across the meet. In field events, Hunter Gum set a lifetime best in the Shot Put, Shelby Tadlock in the Discus, and Anna Hume in the Long Jump. Gum's throw moved him into 5th on the Carroll Top 10 Lists. Claire Bucklin ran her fastest ever 400m as part of the winning 4x400m Relay and Oliver Morris ran a personal best in the 3000m Steeplechase. Morris' run puts him into 2nd All-Time for the Saints. All three Carroll 5000m runners – Anna Terry, Ali Cunningham, and Daniel Koralewski – ran personal records. Koralewski's time moves him into 8th on Carroll's leaderboards.

A slew of Carroll athletes placed in the Top 3 of their events out of NAIA competitors. For the men, this included Tucker Monaco (Long Jump – 3rd, Pole Vault – 1st), Colin Stoddard (Pole Vault – 3rd), Carson Krack (110m Hurdles – 1st, Long Jump – 2nd), Weston Means (High Jump – 1st), Gardner (3000m Steeplechase – 1st), Morris (3000m Steeplechase – 2nd), Jack Jensen (800m – 1st), Wyatt Ehredt (800m – 2nd), Randon Richman (400m – 2nd), Jackson Swanz (110m Hurdles – 2nd), and Carter White (100m – 2nd).  On the women's side, Top 3 finishers included: Harlie Jackson (100m – 2nd), Bucklin (Long Jump – 3rd, 100m Hurdles – 2nd), Katelyn Christensen (100m Hurdles – 3rd), Chloe Raats (400m – 1st), Madalen Shipman (800m – 1st), Terry (5000m – 1st), Kayla Botkin (Discus – 1st), Abigail McBeain (Shot Put – 1st, Discus – 2nd), Tadlock (Shot Put – 3rd), and Braedyn Johnson (Triple Jump – 1st).

"This is a good starting place," said Head Coach Harry Clark. "Now we need to go to work and keep getting a little bit better every week over the course of the season," he added.

The Saints compete every week through the Frontier Conference Outdoor Championships hosted at home in early May. Their next meet is also at home on April 4-5.
