HELENA, Mont. - The Carroll College Softball team is North of the border for this weekend's mid-season CCC series against the University of British Columbia. Friday afternoon brings a 3 p.m. - 5 p.m. (MDT) doubleheader, with a pair more on Saturday at 12 p.m. and 2 p.m.
This weekend, the Fighting Saints (11-12, 7-5) will look to separate themselves from the Thunderbirds (11-9, 6-6), who sit just one game back in the 2025 CCC standings
Carroll put together four big wins last weekend at Nelson Stadium, earning a weekend sweep over Corban to leapfrog the T-Birds in the standings.
Runs were not hard to come by for the Saints, as they scored 34 total runs in the four-game sweep. Pitching was also a strong suit for the Saints last weekend, as
Kennedy Venner (Billings, Mont. / JR) tossed her best game of the season in game one of the series, striking out 15 batters in a one-hit, one-run complete game effort.
Venner's 15-strikeout game is a new career-high, but remarkably comes up 10 short of the new CCC record, 25 strikeouts from the Thunderbirds' Carleen Murray a couple of weeks ago against Warner Pacific.
For the past two seasons, the Saints and T-birds have finished near each other in the standings. Both times, UBC has taken the five-seed into the CCC postseason tournament, with Carroll entering as the six-seed. This season, the Saints will look to flip the script, aiming to string together a series victory to keep UBC behind them as the season winds down.
The Thunderbirds have the edge in head-to-head contests over the last two years, having won six of the nine total games played. Carroll has not historically fared well in games played in Canada, having won only three contests in B.C., but will look to change that this season.
The weekend series will not be streamed, but live stats for each game can be followed below:
