HELENA, Mont. - The Carroll College Softball team will return to the Southeast corner of Nelson Stadium this weekend, hosting Corban in a four game series on Friday and Saturday. First pitch for game on of Friday's doubleheader is slated for 2 p.m., with the second game following at 4 p.m. Saturday's doubleheader will feature games at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.
The Fighting Saints (7-12, 4-5) find themselves in familiar territory nearing the mid-way point of the 2025 season. The Saints sit in sixth-place in the Cascade Collegiate Conference standings, the same spot they have finished for each of the last two seasons.
A weekend series against the Warriors (1-20, 1-8) puts Carroll in a position to potentially jump up the the leaderboard, as Corban enters the weekend with their lone win coming over Providence on the conference opening weekend.Â
The Saints took two out of three games last weekend in a rain-soaked series against Bushnell, and will look to build some momentum heading into the back-end of the season as they aim to make their third-straight appearance in the CCC Championships come May.
Both
Morgan Sunchild (Great Falls, Mont. / SR) and
Kenna Thomas (Belgrade, Mont. / SR) are having strong seasons at the plate. Sunchild leads the team with a .379 batting average, 22 hits, and 14 RBI's. Thomas is hitting .348, and is the only player with an OPS greater than 1.0 on the season, entering the weekend at 1.053.
Kennedy Venner (Billings, Mont. / JR) is in-line for the start in the first game, while
Abbie Amend (Spokane, Wash. / JR) will likely get the nod in game No. 2 of the afternoon. The pair have seen the bulk of the work in the circle for the Saints this season, with over 100 combined innings pitched. The two juniors are each proficient in securing outs on their own, as Venner has 49 strikeouts on the season and Amend enters the week with 34.
