Gainesville, Fla. – Saints Track & Field added 3 more All-Americans at the US Marines NAIA Men's and Women's Indoor Track & Field Championships on Friday.
Tucker Monaco and Carson Krack placed 6th and 8th in the Heptathlon respectively, collectively scoring another 4 points for the Saints, bringing the team total to 14. The men entered the final event - the 1000m - in 8th (Krack) and 9th (Monaco) after a strong Pole Vault competition for both. They placed 1st and 2nd in the 1000m, running fast enough times to earn the points to move up in the standings.
"I'm just very proud of these two guys for staying patient and consistent throughout the competition," said Head Coach Harry Clark. "They kept their confidence up and worked together well all meet," he added.
Madalen Shipman competed in the 600m for the Saints women. In an exciting race in the 4th of 4 heats, she ran a personal record by around 3 seconds. While she did not win her heat to achieve an automatic qualification, she was the fastest qualifier by time in her race with the 3rd fastest time overall in the preliminary round. Because only 8 individuals earn a trip to the finals, her performance solidifies her as an All-American. She will run in the final on Saturday which will be made up of 2 heats of 4.
Competition continues at Alachua County Sports & Events Center on March 1. Zack Gacnik will also compete after qualifying for the final in the 5000m on Thursday. Thursday was a great day for the Saints overall with Weston Means winning the National Championship in the High Jump.
The Saints' event schedule for the final day is as follows (times adjusted to Mountain Time from Eastern):
SATURDAY
11:25 am 600m Final (Shipman)
2:20 pm 5000m Final (Gacnik)
