HELENA, Mont. - The Carroll College Softball team will host their home opening series on Friday and Saturday, kicking-off Cascade Collegiate Conference play with four games against No. 16 College of Idaho inside Nelson Stadium. Friday's doubleheader is slated for 1 p.m. and 3 p.m., with another two games Saturday at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.
For the first time in program history, the Fighting Saints (3-5) will play a home series inside of Nelson Stadium. The recently renovated playing surface was constructed to accommodate a full Softball diamond, with dugouts and netting occupying the Southeast corner of the field.
One of two Montana schools competing in the CCC, the Saints have seen their share of early season weather issues derail February and March scheduled contests. That issue is no longer, as Nelson Stadium's new artificial turf provides safe and consistent field conditions all year long. With Centennial Field in unplayable conditions due to snow melt, this weekend's home-opening series will be the first opportunity for the Saints to compete on the field they've been practicing on all winter.
Carroll enters the series with a 3-5 record, having played eight games in the span of six days in Arizona to start the month.Â
Freshman
Ella Seaman (Belgrade, Mont.) was named the CCC Player of the Week following Carroll's busy first week of action. She enters the weekend leading the team with nine hits on the season, carrying a .360 batting average, .833 OPS, and is slugging .440 to start the year.Â
2024 All-CCC selection
Kenna Thomas (Belgrade, Mont. / SR) is also off to a good start. The Senior leads the Saints with a pair of monster home runs, and is slugging a whopping .909.
Kennedy Venner (Billings, Mont. / JR) is line for the start in game one, entering the weekend with a 2-2 record. An All-CCC selection last year, Venner has 22 strikeouts on the season through 25.0 innings of work.
The Saints made history last spring, knocking off C of I in the opening round of the CCC Championship to earn the program's first postseason victory, and will look to start the 2025 season off strong against the Yotes as well.
