Men's Track and Field | 02/13/25 | 9:35 PM
Helena, Mont. – Saints Track & Field will send a group of athletes to the Mountain States Games in Pocatello, Idaho on Friday and Saturday.
The multi-event athletes will compete for the second time this season with Tucker Monaco, Carson Krack, Connor Tuss, Jake Jamieson, and Jackson Tarum in the Heptathlon and Sorren Reese and Anna Hume in the Pentathlon. Monaco and Krack are currently qualified for the NAIA National Indoor Championships in the event, and they are ranked 6th and 11th in the nation respectively.
The women's competition will be completed on Friday with events in the following order: 60m Hurdles, High Jump, Shot Put, Long Jump, and 800m. The men will compete in the 60m Dash, Long Jump, Shot Put, and High Jump on Friday. Their event will then conclude on Saturday with the 60m Hurdles, Pole Vault, and 1000m.
A national caliber men's Distance Medley Relay (DMR) will also race on Friday evening. Brycen Gardner, Peter Rehberger, Wyatt Ehredt, and Zack Gacnik missed the NAIA B Standard by only 2 seconds last weekend in Spokane, Wash. at the Riverfront Invitational at the Podium. The same group will return to the oval with greater experience for one more chance at national qualifying in the 4000m length relay. The Saints women will also compete in the DMR.
This will be the final meet for potential qualifiers overall. In particular, eyes will be on previous Nationals competitor Josh Smalley as he aims to jump an NAIA Standard in the Pole Vault. However, Saints will try to hit strong marks across a variety of running and field events with over 30 athletes competing in the meet.
The Saints currently have 6 athletes qualified for Nationals: Monaco, Krack, Gacnik, Brynn Wandle, Weston Means, and Madalen Shipman. Shipman will take another swing at the 600m race in preparation for the National Championships in Florida in 2 weeks. Last season she was only able to run one 600m before Nationals, so it will be a great opportunity to hone her tactics one extra time. Wandle will be in action in the Pole Vault while recently minted school record holder Means will take a rest week as the Saints look towards the postseason.
The Pentathlon will begin at 10:00 am Mountain Time Friday and the Heptathlon at 11:00 am at Holt Arena. Field events and running events will begin at 3:00 pm.
