DILLON, Mont. - The Carroll Men's Basketball team showed no signs of rust following a holiday weekend off, racing past No. 23 Montana Western 95-71 on Friday night at the Straugh Gymnasium.
Behind a season-high 10 three-pointers, another night above 50 percent from the floor as a team, and a season-low five turnovers, the Fighting Saints (5-1, 4-0) picked up their first ranked win in the 2025-26 campaign.
The Saints were highly efficient in the first half, shooting 56 percent from the floor as a team (19-34) with just three turnovers. The tandem of
Isaiah Crane (Portland, Ore. / R-SO) and
Isaac Round (Northampton, England / SO) combined for 25 points in the opening 20, and both pulled down four rebounds. Round wasn't just a scoring threat, however, as he played facilitator to the Carroll offense with five assists in the frame as well. Defensively, the Saints forced six Bulldog turnovers in the first half, and limited Western to just 39 percent from the floor - leading to a comfortable 18-point cushion at the break, 51-33.
The second half saw much of the same story, as reigning Frontier Conference scoring champ, Crane, added 10 more points to bring his total to a game-high 24. While Round cooled off a touch,
Lorence Dela Cruz (Winnipeg, Manitoba / SR) was right there to fill in, as the shifty guard scored 12 of his 18 points in the frame. Carroll forced seven more Western turnovers, bringing their total to 13, while locking down the perimeter and holding the Bulldogs to just 18 percent from range in the second half.
Kellen Harrison (Bozeman, Mont. / SO) came up two rebounds shy of a double-double, finishing with 11 points and a game-high eight rebounds. His defensive presence was felt early and often, as the multi-time Frontier Defensive Player of the Week led all players with five steals.
All ten players who touched the court for the Saints scored, with four players posting 10 or more points each (Crane 24, Dela Cruz 18, Round 14, Harrison 11).
Friday night's 24-point win over the Bulldogs was Carroll's largest win over Western since February of 2019 when they exploded for a 38-point win in the PE Center.
All focus now shifts to a 5:30 p.m. showdown with No. 4-ranked Montana Tech in Butte tomorrow evening, as Carroll looks to move to 5-0 in Frontier play for the first time since 2019-20.
