BISMARCK, N.D. - The Carroll Men's Basketball team kept to their winning ways on Saturday evening, pulling away for a 94-82 win over first year Frontier-member Bismarck State at the Armory.
Since suffering their lone setback of the season against then-ranked No. 1 College of Idaho, the Fighting Saints (4-1, 3-0) have been playing some good basketball - stacking another win in their first ever meeting with the Mystics (0-6, 0-2).
Lorence Dela Cruz (Winnipeg, Manitoba / SR) had a career night for the Saints, leading all players with a game-high 21 points to power Carroll to a win. His first half performance was impressive in its own right, as the second-year guard nearly matched his previous career mark with 13 points on a 6-9 effort from the floor.
Matching the impressive backcourt half,
Nate Christy (Spokane, Wash. / FR) provided an equally impressive frame in the frontcourt. The Gonzaga Prep product also scored 13 in the first, helping give Carroll a 43-40 lead at the break.
The Mystics did a good job of slowing down
Isaiah Crane (Portland, Ore. / R-SO), as the first team to hold the talented guard to single digit scoring (nine points), but Carroll did well to replace the scoring.
Kellen Harrison (Bozeman, Mont. / SO) scored 12 points in the second half while going 5-9 from the floor, and
Drew Jones (Puyallup, Wash. / FR) added 14 second half points with another 5-9 effort from the floor.
The Saints will enjoy a week of rest, and will begin preparations for a road swing with traditional rivals Montana Western and Montana Tech in two weeks.
