GREAT FALLS, Mont. — The No. 24-ranked Carroll Volleyball team dropped a ranked matchup at No. 3 Providence on Saturday afternoon, falling in straight sets at the McLaughlin Center.
The Fighting Saints (12-9, 7-6) had a rough night at the net, hitting just .028 in their three-set loss to the Argos (21-1, 14-0)
Carroll (got off to a strong start in the opening set, taking an early 11–8 lead behind kills from both Elizabeth (Helena, Mont. / R-SR) and Lauren Heuiser (Helena, Mont. / JR). Providence responded with a 9–1 run midway through the frame, however, to go up 17-12. Carroll managed to pull within one at 17–18, but the Argos closed the set with seven of the final eight points.
In the second set, the Saints again surged early. Carroll forced a Providence timeout after a block from Birdie (Helena, Mont. / FR) and Lauren Heuiser made it 11–7. The Argos rallied with six straight points out of the break, and despite late kills from Lauren Heuiser and Taysa Conger (Merino, Colo. / SR), Providence held on 25–19 to take a 2–0 lead.
The third set belonged fully to the Argos, who used an efficient .333 hitting performance to finish the sweep. Carroll battled early, but Providence used a 10–4 stretch midway through the frame to pull away and close out the match 25–14.
McKaila Balcom (Pasco, Wash. / JR) led Carroll with seven kills, while Elizabeth and Lauren Heuiser added five each.
Elizabeth Heuiser had a match-high 6.0 blocks, while Lauren Fox (Bozeman, Mont. / FR) led the Saints with 11 assists and Jansyn Carrizales led the team in digs with 11.
Carroll will look to snap a three-game skid on Thursday, as they head to Billings for a 6 p.m. match with Rocky Mountain College.
