HELENA, Mont. - The Carroll Men's Soccer team saw a first half lead slip away, ultimately leading to a disappointing 1-1 draw with the College of Idaho on Saturday afternoon on Valley bank Field at Nelson Stadium.
Things were going exactly how the (RV) Fighting Saints (7-2-2, 5-1-1) had hoped, but a slip up midway through the second half allowed the Yotes (2-3-3, 2-3-2) to sneak in and split the points on a brisk afternoon.
Looking to bounce-back from a 3-2 loss on Thursday to Eastern Oregon, the Fighting Saints looked sharp in the opening half. Carroll outshot College of Idaho 7-2 in the first 45 minutes, and were rewarded in the 27th minute when
Alfie Snow (Middlesbrough, England / SR) scored his fifth goal of the season off an assist from
Nils Benning (Kiel, Germany / JR).
The Yotes began to push back in the early stages of the second half, and found their equalizer midway through. Eric Hornung snuck a header through the crowd and into the net on a corner kick assist from Pierre Fabre in the 70th minute to knot things up at 1-1.
As time ticked down, things would get progressively more chippy. College of Idaho's Graham Herzog was given his second yellow card of the afternoon in the 86th minute, presenting Carroll with an 11 on 10 opportunity over the final four minutes, but the Saints couldn't capitalize.
The draw didn't do any damage to Carroll's position in the CCC table, as they remain at second place with the season winding down.
Next up for the Saints is an in-state rivalry game with Providence in Great Falls at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday.
