Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

No. 24 Saints Drop Three Tight Sets to Skylights

HAVRE, Mont. - In a match featuring multiple extended runs from each side, the No. 24-ranked Carroll Volleyball fell in three sets to MSU-Northern at the Armory Gymnasium on Friday evening.

Not without opportunity, the Fighting Saints (12-8, 7-5) couldn't find a way to finish frames out in a frustrating three set match against the Skylights (10-9, 8-5).

The night started out how Carroll would have hoped, as the Saints jumped out to a 13-8 lead in the first set. A 10-2 run by the Skylights in the middle of the frame, however, would flip the script in a hurry. The Saints managed to get back in front 21-20 following the scoreless streak, but Northern powered through in the back end of the set for a 25-22 win.

More of the same was in store in the second set. Carroll led the frame 20-16, but four attack errors by the Saints helped the Skylights go on a 10-1 run to steal the second set, 25-21.

In the third set, Carroll strung together a long scoring run in the middle of the frame, scoring eight-straight points to knot things up at 16-16. A back-and-forth battle saw the teams stay close throughout, eventually working towards a 22-22 tie late. MSU-Northern would finally breakaway, ending the match with three straight points for the sweep.

The Carroll attack was subpar on the evening, as the team hit just .067 on the night with 37 kills and 25 errors.

McKaila Balcom (Pasco, Wash. / JR) led the Saints with 11 kills. Jansyn Carrizales (Sunnyside, Wash. / JR) had a match-high 19 assists, while Sofia Kimmel (Bozeman, Mont. / FR) led Carroll defensively with 22 digs.

Carroll will have to quickly move on from the loss, as they turn around and take on No. 3 Providence at the McLaughlin Center in Great Falls at 2 p.m. tomorrow afternoon.
