Carroll Women March to 2-1 Win Behind Moczan's Brace

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The Carroll College Women's Soccer team finished their Midwest swing on Sunday evening with a 2-1 victory over Indiana Tech at the Warrior Athletic Field in Fort Wayne, Ind.

The Fighting Saints (2-0-1) will head home to Helena feeling good about their weekend in Indiana following an impressive 2-1 win over the Warriors on Sunday evening.

In a continuation from the end of Saturday night's draw at Taylor, Carroll spent the vast majority of the first half in Warrior territory.

The shot totals were slanted heavily in favor of the Saints in the first 45, with Carroll out-shooting the Warriors 14-3 in the frame. Seven of forward Deanna Lord's (Cave Creek, Ariz. / JR) eight total shots came in the first half, but the pressure would amount to no goals and the teams would enter the break in a scoreless tie.

Delaney Moczan, (Las Vegas, Nev. / SO) a Second Team All-CCC forward in the 2023 season, took control in the early stages of the second half while making a serious case for CCC Offensive Player of the Week.

In the 54th minute, Moczan would find the back of the net with assists from both Emily Funseth (Great Falls, Mont. / GR) and Ella Kuenzli (Colorado Springs, Colo. / SO) to give the Saints a 1-0 advantage.

Just three minutes later, Moczan would add her second goal of the game, and fourth goal of the young season to double the Carroll lead, 2-0.

Indiana Tech would manage to half the Saints' lead in the late stages of the game, however. With just eight minutes remaining in the game Payton Kuhn would find a goal following a free kick opportunity deep in the Carroll third of the pitch.

The Carroll defense would hold strong in the remaining time, and the Saints would emerge with a 2-1 win as the sun faded away in Indiana.

Maria Ackerman (Billings, Mont. / SO) would finish her night with eight total saves, and just the one goal allowed.

Carroll will have a week off from competition before heading to Billings for a pair of matches against NCAA Division II opponents on September 5 and 7 in Black Hills State (S.D.) and MSU Billings.
