LEWISTON, Idaho - The Carroll College Volleyball team made quick work of Pacific Union (Calif.) on Thursday afternoon, earning a three-set sweep in their first match of the Hells Canyon Grand Invitational hosted by Lewis-Clark State.

The Fighting Saints (4-1) got things rolling early against a Pioneer team (0-1) who were playing their first game of the year, and never looked back. Carroll rolled to a three-set victory in convincing fashion to begin their weekend in Idaho.

The first set of the match would prove to be the most tightly contested, and even so, the Saints would waltz to a 25-18 win. Although Carroll only accrued eight total kills in the frame, they managed to hold off the Pacific Union attack and hold on for the seven point win following a 17-7 run in the middle of the set.

The second frame was all Carroll, with the Saints hitting an impressive .394 as a team. Again, a 10-0 Carroll run in the middle of the frame led to the lopsided set-win for the Saints.

Carroll wrapped up the match with an impressive 25-13 win in the third and final set of the day where they again posted a plus-300 attack percentage (.345).

In total, the Saints posted 15 service aces to just one for the Pioneers while also finishing with 14 more kills in the match (CC - 36, PUC - 22).

Sidney Gulick (Kalispell, Mont. / JR) and Lauren Heuiser (Helena, Mont. / SO) each finished with a game-high 10 kills. 

Hannah Schweikert (Columbia Falls, Mont. / R-JR) tallied 31 assists in the lopsided win.

The Pioneers were led by Jaylee Mills' seven-kill performance.

Tomorrow the Saints will be back to work, squaring off with a pair of CCC teams in Walla Walla and LC State.
