Men's Track and Field | 05/23/24 | 7:25 AM
Marion, Ind. – The Saints had a strong Day 1 at the NAIA Outdoor Track & Field Championships held at Indiana Wesleyan University on Wednesday May 22 through Friday May 24.
Chloe Gallagher wrapped up a strong career for the Saints, clearing three Pole Vault heights at the National meet, approaching her personal record, and placing 14th overall. Gallagher has vaulted five times at Nationals in her time at Carroll, and this was her top height cleared.
In the Decathlon, Tucker Monaco is sitting in 14th moving into his stronger of the two days. He will compete in 110m Hurdles, Discus, Pole Vault, Javelin, and the 1500m today.
Two Carroll athletes threw Javelin on Wednesday. Reuben Hornby placed 25th for the men, and Sorren Reese competed in her first National meet, placing 23rd.
In the running events, the Men's 4x800m Relay (Kaiden Romney, Wyatt Ehredt, Marco Gonzalez-Sosa, and Peter Rehberger) competed hard in an exciting race to achieve their fastest time of the season as a relay. Every individual member ran a personal record: Romney - 1:57.85, Ehredt - 1:56.78, Gonzalez-Sosa - 1:56.63, Rehberger - 1:54.46. The relay did not make the final.
Brycen Gardner ran his second fastest time ever in the 3000m Steeplechase. The time placed him 15th overall in one spot away from making the final.
In the 10,000m final, Zack Gacnik executed his race plan perfectly. The exciting race and smart running led to a personal record and 9th place finish, one slot away from All-American.
On Thursday, Monaco will continue in the Decathlon. Weston Means will compete in High Jump where he is currently ranked 13th nationally. Gacnik will double back to run the 5,000m semi. For that race, Gacnik will run in the 3rd of 3 heats where the first 4 placers and next 4 fastest times will move on to the final Friday.
