Helena, Mont. – Carroll College Track & Field hosted its first home meet of the season, the Fighting Saints Open, this Thursday and Friday at Vigilante Stadium.
The Fighting Saints placed second in the team scores for both men and women. Montana Tech won the meet on the men's side with the University of Providence taking top marks for the women.
It was a strong two days for Carroll's multi-event athletes. Tucker Monaco set a personal record and jumped to the top spot in the NAIA for the Decathlon en route to a personal best. Sorren Reese also set a lifetime record and moved into the NAIA Top 16 for the Heptathlon, currently in 5th overall. Katelyn Christensen also had a strong meet, moving into 12th in the NAIA in her debut heptathlon. Gabby Domenici set a personal record and currently sits in 17th in the NAIA.
Carroll had five event wins for the men and three for the women. Treyton Graham won the 400, Brycen Gardner the 800 and 1500, Jackson Barney the Pole Vault, and Monaco the Decathlon. Hannah Sempf won the 5000m, Sophie Loveless the Triple Jump, and Sorren Reese the Heptathlon.
The Saints achieved multiple other personal records throughout the meet beyond the multi-event athletes. On the men's side, Weston Means set a lifetime best in the Triple Jump. The men's distance group had a tremendous day with the following personal bests: Gardner (1500m, 800m), Connor O'Hara (1500m), Peter Rehberger (1500m), Oliver Morris (1500m, 800m), Zack Gacnik (800m), and James Normandeau (5000m).
Monaco moved to 4th all-time at Carroll in the Decathlon. Means joined the Carroll Top 10 in the Triple Jump, moving into 7th and joining current teammate Carter White who sits in 6th. Gardner moved to 6th on the Carroll lists in the 1500m and Rehberger to 9th.
For the women, Lauren Tuss set a personal record in the Shot Put, as did Madalen Shipman and Chloe Raats in the 200m. Rylee Herbstritt had a strong day with lifetime bests in both the 100m Hurdles and the 400m Hurdles. Sempf and Jenna Castro ran their fastest times ever in the 5000m.
Herbstritt bumped up to 4th in the 100m Hurdles and 7th in 400m Hurdles on the Carroll Top 10 lists. In the Heptathlon, Reese moved to 4th and Christensen and Domenici to 6th and 7th respectively.
The 4x800m Relay provided an exciting point in the day with several teams chasing NAIA National Qualifying Standards. While the Saints did not hit the mark yet, many athletes ran record splits within the races (Shipman - Women's, Rehberger - Men's, and Marco Gonzalez-Sosa - Men's). Isabelle Ruff ran a great first 800m back for the season within the relay. Gonzalez-Sosa also ran a strong debut 400m race earlier in the meet.

The Saints will head to Missoula next weekend for the Montana Open. The event will include the Frontier Conference Championship race for the 3000m Steeplechase.
