HELENA, Mont. - The Carroll Golf teams earned a pair of decisive wins in a late-season dual with the University of Providence on Saturday afternoon at Bill Roberts Golf Course in Helena.
A tune-up for the upcoming Frontier Conference Championship was just what the Fighting Saints needed, and both the Carroll Men and Women picked up wins in a head-to-head event with the Argos on Saturday.
The Carroll Men, coming off one of their more consistent showings this season, won the stroke play dual by 14 strokes (CC - 310, UP - 324). The five-play, four-count format fared well for the Saints with three of the five posting rounds in the 70's.
Jackson Hammond (Scottsdale, Ariz. / FR), playing from the four spot, earned medalist honors with a 75. Tj Fierling (North Bend, Wash. / FR) finished one stroke back with a 76, and
JT Slivinski (Montpelier, Idaho / FR) carded a 77 to help lead the Saints to victory.
The Women's side played out much the same for the Saints, as they shot 347 as a team to cruise to a 29-stroke win over the Argos (376).
Celi Chapman (Montana City, Mont. / FR) earned medalist honors with a 78 (+6), seven strokes clear of the next closest competitor.
Stella Claridge (Kalispell, Mont. / SO) shot 86,
Kate Williams (Portland, Ore. / FR) shot 90, and
Isa Tomazeli (Sao Paulo, Brazil / JR) fired 93 to round out the Carroll four.
The win was increasingly impressive as the Saints played without their senior leader,
Katie Fagg (Missoula, Mont. / SR).
A trip to Victoria, Texas on April 29 awaits the Saints, as they gear up for the Frontier Conference Championship at the Victoria Country Club.
