HELENA, Mont. - The Carroll College Softball team will return to their home turf this afternoon, ready for a damp weekday doubleheader with British Columbia at Centennial Park, with first pitches slated for 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.
The Fighting Saints (11-12-1, 6-5) are one of the hottest teams in the Cascade Collegiate Conference right now, and they'll look to keep things rolling against the Thunderbirds (14-11, 6-5) this week.
Winners of six-consecutive CCC games, and eight straight in total, Carroll has been playing inspired ball as of late. Following a sluggish start to league play, the Saints offense has improved dramatically, finally starting to offer some run support to a rotation that has performed very well through 24 games. The Saints are averaging 5.5 runs per game during their eight-game win streak, all while holding opponents to just 2.25 runs allowed.
Both UBC and Carroll enter the weekend in the mix for the CCC postseason tournament, tied for fifth place in the standings with 6-5 conference records, two games clear of seventh-place Providence.
As is customary, Montana weather flipped this week following a stretch of gorgeous spring days, but luckily for the Saints, Centennial Park withstood the snow and rainy conditions very well and games will be played here in Helena.
First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m. in game one, with
Kennedy Venner (Billings, Mont. / SO) in line for the start, followed by a 4 p.m. back-end of the doubleheader.
Both games will be streamed on the Fighting Saints Network - presented by Point S Tire & Auto Service
