Carroll Softball Continues Hot Play, Sweep Corban

SALEM, Ore. - The Carroll Softball team picked up their fifth and sixth straight wins on Friday, topping Corban 5-2 and 8-6 in CCC play on Friday afternoon in Oregon.

The Fighting Saints (9-12-1, 5-5) evened their conference record in the Beaver State, holding off the Warriors (1-25, 0-11) in the first two games of a weekend series.

GAME ONE
Carroll got out in front early in the first game of the day, never looking back en route to a 5-1 series opening win. Sammie Labrum (Kalispell, Mont. / SO) got things started in the top of the first with an RBI double, backed up by and RBI single from Kaitlynn Ayers (Twin Falls, Idaho / SR) RBI single just two batters later to put the Saints on top 2-0.

Liz Ybarra (Fullerton, Calif. / FR) brought home one in the top of the second, followed by a pair of RBI singles from Labrum and Morgan Sunchild (Great Falls, Mont. / SO), giving Carroll a 5-0 lead after two.

Kennedy Venner (Billings, Mont. / SO) was great again, punching out eleven batters in her complete game win. A two RBI double in the bottom of the sixth would be the Warriors' only runs, and Carroll would close out the 5-2 win.

GAME TWO
Sammie Labrum kept her hot day at the plate rolling in game two. Labrum knocked in a pair in the top of the first, while a Warrior error sent another run across the plate to make things 3-0 early. Brookelynn Jackson (Keizer, Ore. / FR) added an RBI single, and the Saints found themselves with a 4-0 lead before taking the field.

Corban wouldn't go down as easily in the second game putting up three runs of their own, aided by a Carroll error in the bottom half of the first the Warriors would cut the lead to 4-3. Another Carroll error in the second opened the door for the Warriors to tie things up at 4-4.

Brooklyn Dryden (Deer Park, Wash. / FR) put the Saints back on top in the third with a two RBI single, and Ayers added one more run on an RBI single in the fourth to give Carroll a 7-4 lead.

Again, Corban responded. The Warriors plated one on a wild pitch, then added another on a single just a few batters later to trim the lead to 7-6.

A sixth inning error by the Warriors gave Carroll an insurance run, and after a tense seventh inning the Saints were able to close out their second win of the afternoon.

The teams will hit the field again in the morning, with first pitch of game one scheduled for 12 p.m. (MDT).
