GREAT FALLS, Mont. - The Carroll Men's Basketball team saw their Frontier Conference season come to a close following a 77-93 loss to No. 8 Montana Tech in the conference championship game.
The Fighting Saints (19-11, 12-3) couldn't quite keep pace with a high-powered Oredigger attack, seeing their memorable Frontier Tournament run come to an end.
As has happened in the last two meetings between the teams, Tech got out to an early lead and never let go. By the midway point ofd the first half Carroll found themselves in an 11-point hole.
The Saints would narrow the gap to as little as four points later in the frame, but some extremely hot shooting from beyond the arc by the Orediggers would halt the Carroll run.
Tech's Asa Williams went 5-7 from three-point range in the first, while the Frontier's leading scorer,
Andrew Cook (Huntington Beach, Calif. / JR), was quiet with just two points. Carroll would trail at the break, 47-30.
The beginning of the second half played out much like the first, with Tech answering any run Carroll started.
An
Isaiah Moore (Fairfield, Calif. / SO) layup around the nine minute mark trimmed the once-17-point Tech lead to just nine, but again the Orediggers responded.Â
Carroll was unable to string together buckets and stops over the final seven minutes and Tech closed out the win, 93-77.
James Lang (Portland, Ore. / R-SO) led the Saints in scoring, finishing his night with 21 points to cap his outstanding Frontier Tournament.
Williams led all scorers, finishing 8-12 from three en route to his game-high 31 points.
The Saints will now await their name to be called at the NAIA selection show this coming Thursday evening where all 64 teams will learn their destinations for the opening rounds.
