HELENA, Mont. - The Carroll College Basketball teams are back in action on Saturday, hosting Rocky Mountain College for the first time in the 2023-24 season at the Carroll PE Center.
The Fighting Saints and Battlin' Bears enter the weekend on different ends of the Frontier standings on both sides of the action.
The Carroll Women sit atop the Frontier table with a 7-1 conference record, while the Men are all alone in second place in the league standings (6-2). The Rocky Women had a rough start to league play, and sit in fifth with a conference record of 3-5, much the same as the Men who have a 2-6 conference record.
The two schools met in Billings last month, with Carroll emerging victorious in both contests. An 18-point performance from
Maddie Geritz (Boise, Idaho / GR) led the Carroll Women to a seven point victory, while
James Lang's (Portland, Ore. / R-SO) 27-point night helped lift the Men to a 72-65 win.
Both Rocky teams are not devoid of talent, regardless of what their records show. The Women are still in the receiving votes category of the NAIA Coaches' Poll, and the Men possess an upset win over NCAA Division I Montana State earlier in the season.
Two of the best scorers in the league will square off in the Men's game,
Andrew Cook (20.6 ppg) and Rocky's Jesse Owens (17.6 ppg). The Saints will be looking to lock up the season-series with the Bears, grabbing the tiebreaker and solidifying a path towards a top 2-seed in the Frontier Tournament later this month.
Saturday's games will be Carroll's annual Whiteout, with students and fans encouraged to pack the PE Center wearing white.
Both games will be streamed live on the
Fighting Saints Network - presented by Point S Tire & Auto Service.
