BUTTE, Mont. - The Carroll Women's Basketball team put an emphatic cap on a Frontier Conference Championship, dominating Montana Tech 55-44 on Saturday afternoon.
The Fighting Saints (21-4, 12-1) continued to torment the team from Butte, beating the Orediggers by 11 points for their 23rd-consectutive win in the series.
The Orediggers shot well above their season average from the floor in the opening frame, but the 50 percent effort still was not enough to keep pace with a clearly superior Carroll side and the Saints would take a 14-9 advantage into the second.
Carroll continued to control the game in period two behind a 10-point effort from
Jamie Pickens (Helena, Mont. / GR) that would help the Saints lead 27-17 at the break.
The Saints scored 22 points in the third quarter, all while holding Tech to just 13 points to extend their advantage to 49=30 heading into the final frame of play.
Carroll, with the game clearly in hand, let up the pressure in the fourth, and the Orediggers would mount an insignificant comeback to bring the final tally within 11 points at 55-44. Any spectator watching the game, however, will likely recall the Carroll controlWHi as far more suffocating than the final score would indicate.
Jamie Pickens secured her 19th double-double of the season with her 20-point, 12-rebound afternoon.
While neither of her final tallies reached double-digits,
Maddie Geritz (Boise, Idaho / GR) had another terrific showing with a nine point, eight rebound affair.
Montana Tech scored at a 45 percent clip, led by 10 points from Aubrie Rademacher, but still suffered a double-digit defeat.
Carroll now has fiive Frontier Conference titles in the last seven seasons, with the last two coming outright.
The Saints will end their regular season with a trip to Rocky on Thursday before a senior day matchup with MSU-Northern next Saturday.
