BILLINGS, Mont. - The No. 8-ranked Carroll Women's Basketball team earned their seventh-consecutive Frontier Conference win on Thursday, beating Rocky Mountain College 73-61 at the Fortin Center.
The Fighting Saints (22-4, 13-1) wrapped up their season sweep over Rocky on Thursday night, scoring a 73-61 decision.
Rarely in 2023-24 have the Saints found themselves in a shootout in the opening frame, but Thursday night in Billings was the exception. Each team shot at least 50 percent from the field, and Carroll would hold a slim three point advantage after one, 21-18.
Eight points in the second quarter from
Jamie Pickens (Helena, Mont. / GR) was the highlight for the Saints, but Rocky would outscore Carroll in the frame to tie the game at 36-36 heading into the half.
Defense would stiffen in the third quarter, and Carroll would hold Rocky to just 14 points on 30 percent shooting as a team to carry a small two-point advantage into the final quarter.
Unsurprisingly, Pickens had another big time performance in the final frame. Her nine points and six rebounds, paired with seven points from
Kyndall Keller (Havre, Mont. / SR) helped spur a 21-11 fourth quarter in favor of the Saints, and Carroll would walk out with yet another win on the season.
Pickens, the double-double factory, secured her 20th double-double of the season with a game-high 28 point performance that also included 10 rebounds.
The backcourt tandem of Keller and
Addi Ekstrom (Bozeman, Mont. / JR) each scored 12 points, and the Saints finished their evening just shy of 50 percent from the floor (48.9 percent).
Rocky's Gracee Lekvold scored a team-high 13 points in her 37 minutes on the court to pace the Bears.
The Saints were excellent at the free throw line, going 19-25 from the stripe in the win.
A senior day affair awaits the Frontier Champion Saints on Saturday, as Carroll welcomes MSU-Northern to the PE Center at an irregular 4 p.m. scheduled tip.
