HELENA, Mont. - The Carroll College Basketball teams will host Montana Western to kick off the final loop through the Frontier Conference schedule this afternoon at the PE Center in Helena, with the Women slated for a 2 p.m. and the Men following at 4 p.m.
The Carroll Women (18-4, 9-1) have a comfortable lead in the Frontier standings, and can further solidify their path towards the top seed in the upcoming Frontier Tournament with a win over the Bulldogs (13-10, 5-5).
A Fighting Saints victory would mark No. 15 in a row over the Bulldogs, and more importantly, would give Carroll a season sweep over Western for the fourth-consecutive year.
In each of the previous two meetings, Carroll has jumped out to a large lead, with Western making late comeback efforts that have fallen short. The goal for Carroll is simple heading into today's game, build that early lead, and finish strong.
Carroll will look to slow down the conference's leading scorer in Western's Jordan Sweeney (19.0 ppg). Guard
Addi Ekstrom (Bozeman, Mont. / JR) has drawn that matchup the majority of the team in the first two meetings, holding Sweeney to just 27 percent from the field (11-40), and will look to continue the trend today.
Every game is important, but tonight's Men's contest is definitely one that the Saints have circled. A win this evening would secure a season sweep of the Bulldogs, but more importantly, it would lock Carroll into at least the two-seed heading into the Frontier Conference Tournament later this month.
The two teams have played a pair of highly-entertaining, back-and-forth games this season.
Kendall Moore (Dayton, Ohio / JR) provided one of the most memorable moments of the year in the first meeting, knocking down a baseline jumper as time expired to give the Saints a two-point victory.
Andrew Cook (Huntington Beach, Calif. / JR) powered his team to a win in the last meeting, scoring 27 en route to a 81-74 win in Dillon last month.
Isaiah Moore (Fairfield, Calif. / SO) has come on strong in recent weeks, and will enter the game off of arguably his best performance of the season in Thursday's road win at MSU-Northern. Carroll hopes that both Moore's (Isaiah and Kendall) and Cook can continue their outstanding play as of late and help lock up an opening round bye at the Frontier Tournament.
Both games will be broadcast live around Montana on SWX, with a simulcast being streamed on the
Fighting Saints Network - presented by Point S Tire & Auto Service.
