Bozeman, Mont. – Saints Track & Field opened their indoor season with two individual national qualifiers at the Bobcat Preview on Thursday.
Madalen Shipman placed second in the 600m, running the NAIA B Standard. Her run narrowly set a personal record and concluded a strong fall season which included a number of breakout cross country performances. Zack Gacnik won the 5000m, also hitting the B Standard for that event. His race also barely edged under his previous personal best, and wrapped up a tremendous cross country fall where he was named Frontier Conference Runner of the Year and earned All-American status as part of a 12th Place Men's team finish at Nationals.
Athletes across track and field event areas got off to a strong start for the 2024-2025 season with multiple strong debuts and Top 3 finishes. Beyond Gacnik and Shipman this included Carson Krack (3rd - Men's 60m Hurdles), Chloe Raats (2nd - Women's 400m), Kailen Herbstritt (3rd - Women's 400m), and Hannah Sempf (3rd - Women's 5000m).
Krack's hurdle race propelled him to 2nd all-time for the Saints. Brynn Wandle pole vaulted in her first collegiate meet, immediately moving into 6th on the Saints Top 10 List. Abigail McBeain and Shelby Tadlock set personal records in the shot put, pushing into 7th and 9th on the Saints' record boards. Kayla Botkin's Weight Throw debut puts her into 2nd for the Saints and knocking on the door of the school record.
"It's just fun to see our athletes go out there and compete after all of their work this fall," said Head Coach Harry Clark. "We know where we are at now and are looking forward to seeing what this group can do in the full spring season," he added.
