Saints Complete Reverse Sweep of Battlin' Bears

HELENA, Mont. - The Carroll College Volleyball team earned a dramatic come-from-behind win over Rocky Mountain College, rallying from a two-set deficit for a five-set win in Billings.

The Fighting Saints (17-11, 5-9) lived up to their moniker on Thursday, fighting their way back to an impressive win over the Battlin' Bears (13-17, 3-11) to secure the No. 4-seed in the upcoming Frontier Conference Championship.

A tightly-contested opening frame fell in favor of the Bears, as they scored three of the final four points of the set in a close 25-23 bout.

Carroll finished with more kills than Rocky in the second set, but attack errors loomed large as they fell in an 0-2 hole with a 25-21 loss in the frame.

The switch was flipped in the third, as Carroll came roaring back into the match with a dominant 25-12 set win. Carroll hit .241 in the frame, while Rocky struggled with a -.030 attack percentage.

Still down to their last set, the Saints showed resiliency in the fourth. Another 25-23 set final was in store, this time with the Purple and Gold on the winning end, forcing a deciding fifth frame.

The five-set classic provided fireworks until the very end, as Carroll found a way to squeak out a gritty comeback win in extra points, 18-16, taking the match in reverse sweep fashion.

Both Heuiser sisters, Elizabeth (Helena, Mont. / R-JR) and Lauren (Helena, Mont. / SO), led the Saints at the net. Liz led the team with 19 kills, with Lauren posting 18 of her own.

Hannah Schweikert (Columbia Falls, Mont. / R-JR) led all players with 56 total assists, while Julia Carr (Portland, Ore. / GR) did Julia Carr things, posting 50 digs in the five-set thriller.

Rocky's Brooke Ark was impressive on the back line, tallying a game-high 55 digs to lead the Bears.

Saturday afternoon will bring a close to the 2024 regular season, as the Saints host MSU-Northern at 2 p.m. in a Senior Day bout.
