HELENA, Mont. - The No. 9-ranked Carroll Women's Basketball team evened their record with a convincing 71-45 win over Bushnell on Monday evening at the PE Center.
The Fighting Saints (3-3) started slow, but caught fire in the second half as they rolled to their second-straight win in a 26-point race past the Beacons (1-3).
Carroll came out of the gates slow, struggling to do much offensively. The Saints trailed after one, 8-6, following a 3-10 start from the field as a team.
Things shifted in the second quarter, and Carroll began to build momentum.
Willa Albrecht (Billings, Mont. / R-JR) ignited the Saints with a perfect shooting frame (3-3, 3-3 FT) for 10 points, while dominating on the defensive side with four steals and a block in the quarter.
Kyndall Keller (Havre, Mont. / R-SR) and
Meagan Karstetter (Moses Lake, Wash. / JR) each added four points in the frame, and the Saints would head into the break with a 24-19 lead.
The Saints broke the game wide open out of the halftime break, scoring 25 points in the third quarter behind a 66 percent shooting effort from the floor as a team. Keller scored nine of her 20 total points in the frame, while Albrecht added seven more to her tally, as well as another pair of blocks and four rebounds to continue her impressive outing.
The fourth quarter belonged to
Willa Albrecht. The preseason All-Frontier selection poured in 13-more points to put a bow on her career-high scoring night, and the Saints would coast to the lopsided 71-45 win.
Albrecht scored a career-high 30 points, leading all players, while also pulling down nine rebounds. Not only was she the best player on the offensive side of the action, but the redshirt-junior was all over the court on defense, adding six steals and four blocks to one of the more impressive stat-lines in recent memory.
Kyndall Keller returned to form for the Saints, scoring 21 points of her own, while
Meagan Karstetter added nine points and three rebounds.
The Beacons were led by 14 points from No. 14 Ayden Krupke, and 10 points from Libby Mathis.
Following a quick break in the action for the Thanksgiving holiday, the Saints will return to action on Saturday at 2 p.m. as they host College of Idaho at the PE Center.
