HELENA, Mont. - The No. 21-ranked Carroll Women's Basketball team picked up a 57-43 Saturday afternoon win over the College of Idaho at the Carroll College PE Center.
The Fighting Saints (4-3) were dominant on the defensive side of the action, stifling anything the Yotes (2-3) tried to get going in an impressive 57-43 win.
The Yotes came out of the gates aggressive, and were rewarded with an early eight-point lead while the Saints struggled to get things moving in the first quarter. WIlla Albrecht (Billings, Mont. / R-JR), who has been playing as good as anyone in the nation as of late, jump-started the Saints with a three-pointer midway through the frame and Carroll would go on to take a 16-15 lead into the second.
Carroll broke the game open in the second quarter, with a full team effort leading to a 23-point explosion. Both
Addi Ekstrom (Bozeman, Mont. / SR) and
Isabelle Erickson (Broadview, Mont. / R-JR) scored five points in the frame, while Carroll held the Yotes to a meager 20 percent effort from the field (3-15). The Saints carried a healthy 28-24 lead into the halftime break, and would never look back.
Neither team was very efficient in the third quarter, with only 14 total points scored between the two teams. Albrecht added four more points to her tally, while matching Erickson's four rebounds in the frame and the Saints would extend their lead by two heading into the fourth.
Five fourth quarter points from Ekstrom would help seal the deal, and the Saints would walk away with the 14-point matinee win.
Albrecht continued her hot-streak, finishing with a 15-point, 11-rebound double double.
Addi Ekstrom finished with a 14-point effort, while Erickson tied for the team-lead with 11 rebounds.
Eight different Saints scored on Saturday in one of the most complete team wins of the season for Carroll.
The College of Idaho's McKenzie Hirsch led her team with 11 points off the bench, finishing as the lone Yote to post double digit points in the loss.
Carroll will now turn its attention to a ranked matchup with No. 14 Mayville State (N.D.) next Friday at 7 p.m. at the PE Center.
