BUTTE, Mont. - The Carroll College Men's Basketball team snapped a four-game skid with a 95-83 win over Cal-Maritime at the Comfort Inn Fall Classic in Butte on Saturday.
The Fighting Saints (3-4) got back on track on Saturday, fending off a late Keelhauler run to get back in the "W" column.
Carroll saw production throughout their lineup in a full-team effort in the first half, entering the break with a 44-29 lead. The Keelhaulers held a 17-16 lead at the 12 minute mark, but Carroll ended the half on a 28-12 run.
Five different players scored at least seven points in the first 20 minutes (Crane, Lang, Kramer, Round, Cuaresma) as the Saints shot 53 percent from the floor, while only knocking down three three-pointers.
The Saints would see their lead grow to as large as 25 points with 13 minutes remaining, but Cal-Maritime would take advantage of a string of empty Carroll possessions to tighten things up.
The Keelhaulers would trim the lead to as little as seven points, but Carroll withstood the run, pulling away over the final seven minutes for a 95-83 win.
Both
Isaiah Crane (Portland, Ore. / R-FR) and
Isaac Round (Southampton, England / FR) scored 14 points in the second half for Carroll, helping shut the door on the Cal-Maritime comeback.
Crane led all players, finishing with 23 points, while Round was the only other player to score 20 or more points, adding 21 of his own.
Derek Kramer (Bellevue, Wash. / JR) posted a 14-point, 15-rebound double-double.
Jamal Frenchwood led Cal-Maritime in the loss, finishing with a team-high 18 points.
Up next, the Saints will head to Caldwell, Idaho for a showdown with College of Idaho and a rematch with Eastern Oregon.
