HELENA, Mont. - The Carroll College Women's Soccer team picked up their third-straight CCC win, topping Corban 2-1 on a windy afternoon in the Capital City.
The Fighting Saints 6-1-3 (3-0-1) have things rolling in the early portion of the CCC schedule, picking up a 2-1 win over the Warriors (4-5-1, 1-3).
The Saints controlled the tempo in the early stages of the game, and found their breakthrough after a persistent effort in the 29th minute.
Emily Funseth (Great Falls, Mont. / GR) played a great free kick from just outside the box to
Rachel McAllister (Brier, Wash. / FR). McAllister headed a perfect ball across the box to a streaking
Hayley Smith (Woods Cross, Utah / SO) who buried a header goal into the top corner of the net to put the Saints on top 1-0.
In the 68th minute, the league's top scoring threat found her 10th goal of the season.
Delaney Moczan (Las Vegas, Nev. / SO) got a much-needed insurance goal, giving Carroll a 2-0 lead.
Corban upped the pressure in the late stages, and were rewarded with a penalty kick in the 86th minute. Fatima Jimenez would convert, but the effort would be too little, too late as the Saints would close out the 2-1 win.
The Saints out-shot the Warriors 19-11 in the match, while also playing 13 corner kicks to Corban's zero.
Maria Ackerman's (Billings, Mont. / SO) shutout streak came to an end, but the 2023 All-CCC performer was still great in the net, finishing with six saves.
The Saints will play their first game ever under the lights at the newly-renovated Valley Bank Field at Nelson Stadium tomorrow night at six, hosting Bushnell to cap a busy weekend,
