BELLEVUE, Neb. - The Carroll College Volleyball team split a pair of matches to round out thier weekend at the 2024 Marvel Classic in Bellevue, Wash. beating Grand View before falling to No. 7 Bellevue.
The Fighing Saints (14-7, 2-5) had a successful weekend in corn country, finishing 2-1 at the Marvel Classic after beating Grand View (Iowa) in five early this morning, before falling to No. 7 Bellevue to conclude their tournament.
Game 1: Carroll 3, Grand View (Iowa) 2
The Saints kicked off the day with a thrilling five-set victory over Grand View.
After dropping the first set 25-21, Carroll rallied to take the second and third sets 25-14 and 25-16, respectively.
Grand View fought back to claim the fourth set 25-23, forcing a decisive fifth set, where Carroll emerged victorious with a 15-10 score.
Elizabeth Heuiser (Helena, Mont. / R-JR0 led Carroll's offense with 16 kills, hitting .311, while also contributing a match-high 9 blocks.
Lauren Heuiser (Helena, Mont. / SO) added 8 kills and 2 aces, while Taysa Conger (Merino, Colo. / JR) chipped in 11 kills.
Setter Hannah Schweikert (Columbia Falls, Mont. / R-JR) orchestrated the attack, dishing out 44 assists and adding 7 digs. Defensively, Julia Carr (Portland, Ore. / GR) anchored the back row with 37 digs, and the Saints combined for a total of 12 blocks in the match.
Game 2: Bellevue 3, Carroll (MT) 1
In the second match of a back-to-back, Carroll faced a formidable Bellevue team, falling in four sets.
Bellevue took the first set 25-12, but the Saints bounced back to push the second set to 26-24 before eventually dropping it. Carroll claimed the third set 25-22, but Bellevue closed out the match with a 25-20 win in the fourth.
Lauren Heuiser shone again for the Saints, leading with 15 kills on a .406 hitting percentage. Elizabeth Heuiser contributed 9 kills and 6 blocks, while Julia Carr had a strong defensive performance with 24 digs.
Bellevue's attack proved too much for Carroll, as they amassed 64 kills with a .262 hitting percentage across the four sets.
The Saints will now look to carry some momentum into the home stretch of the Frontier Conference regular season, as they look to make a push for the league crown starting with a home match against Rocky at 7 p.m. on Thursday.
