DILLON, Mont. - The Carroll College Volleyball team fell in three sets to Montana Western in a Frontier Conference matchup in Dillon, Mont. on Wednesday evening.
The Fighting Saints (5-13, 0-2) lost their second Frontier match of the season to the Bulldogs (15-1, 2-0) tonight at the Straugh Gymnasium.
An injury-riddled Carroll team put up a good fight against a very hot Montana Western team on Wednesday, but the short-handed Saints were unable to come out on top.
Western jumped out to a 1-0 lead following a 25-18 opening set win in which the Bulldogs hit .250 as a team.
Carroll would tighten the margin in the following sets, but ultimately fell 25-22 in both the second and third sets as Western took the straight-set sweep.
Mara Lynch (Bozeman, Mont. / SR) led Carroll, and tied for a game-high with 11 kills on the evening, while Jansyn Carrizales (Sunnyside, Wash. / FR) led the Saints with 16 assists in her first significant action of the 2023 season.
Lauren Sehenuk (Hermosa Beach, Calif. / SR) finished with four blocks, and both Lynch and
Julia Carr (Portland, Ore. / SR) each posted 22 digs on the night.
Western's Kaylee Fritz finished with a game-high 25 assists in the win.
Carroll will turn their attention towards their first home Frontier match of the season on Friday, hosting Providence at 7 p.m. in the Carroll College PE Center.
