BILLINGS, Mont. - The Carroll College Soccer teams each upended Rocky Mountain College on Sunday. The Carroll Men earned a 2-0 shutout, while the Carroll Women picked up a 3-1 to wrap up play from Billings.
The Carroll Men (2-1-1, 2-0) won their second game of the weekend, with another clean sheet in the books following a 2-0 shutout of Rocky (3-1-2, 1-1).
The Fighting Saints handed the Bears their first loss of the season, and more importantly, secured the first win over Rocky in program history.
The 2-0 win moves Carroll to 2-0 in CCC play for just the third time in program history.
Michal Mojzis (Bratislava, Slovakia / JR) opened the scoring for the Saints for the second game in a row. Mojzis buried a terrific cross from
Ismael Navarro (Dayton, Texas / FR) to put Carroll on top 1-0 in the 34th minute.
Just five minutes later,
Enrico Paparelli (Sao Paulo, Brazil / FR) would score his second goal in as many games, giving the Saints an insurance goal heading into the half.
Juan Muniz Navarette (Hermiston, Ore. / SO) picked up another shut out, and had a relatively quiet day in the net (two saves) thanks in large part to a great effort from the Saints defenders.
On the Women's side, the Fighting Saints remain unbeaten (4-0-1, 2-0) following their 3-1 win over the Bears (2-3, 1-1).
Emily Funseth (Great Falls, Mont. / SR) decided Sunday would be a good day to take things under her control.
Funseth opened the scoring with a goal in the 13th minute, off of an assist from
Zoie Koci (Boise, Idaho / SR).
Rocky would find an equalizer in the 25th minute, as Halle Lambert was able to sneak one past
Maria Ackerman (Billings, Mont. / FR), and the game would enter the halftime break tied at 1-1.
In the 62nd minute, Funseth would net her second goal of the game to give the Saints an advantage again, 2-1.
With just two minutes remaining, Funseth scored her third goal of the game to close the door on any late Rocky comeback attempt, and the Saints would win 3-1.
The senior leader, Funesth's, Sunday afternoon hat trick now gives her five goals in her last two games.
Both the Men and Women will return to the pitch on Thursday, this time on their own home turf, as the Saints will welcome Multnomah (Ore.) to Nelson Stadium for one of two Carroll Soccer homecoming weekend contests.
