DILLON, Mont. - The Carroll College Volleyball team was unable to pick up a win on Friday, dropping their opening two games at the Frontier Conference Preview in Dillon to MSU-Northern and Providence, 3-1.
The Fighting Saints (5-9) couldn't find a way to come out on top in a pair of non-conference games against conference-members MSU-Northern and Providence on Friday, falling in four sets in both games.
CARROLL vs MSU-NORTHERN
The early morning matchup with the Skylights would start out in favor of the Saints, but things would sour in a hurry and Carroll would fall 3-1.
Carroll came out of the starting gate hot, scoring the first five points of the match. The teams would exchange runs, with Carroll closing out a big first set win, 25-16.
From that point on, the game would get away from the Saints. MSU-Northern would go on to win the next three consecutive sets by scores of 25-19, 25-17, and 25-16.
The Saints would finish the opening match with a team attack percentage of just .091.
Lauren Sehenuk (Hermosa Beach, Calif. / SR) would finish tied for a game-high with 14 kills to lead the Saints.
Maddie Wilkes (Pocatello, Idaho / SR)Â tallied 24 assists, and
Julia Carr (Portland, Ore. / SR) ended game one with a game-high 39 digs.
Alyssa Pretty Weasel led the Skylights, finishing her match with 14 kills, while Baily Egan posted 30 digs in the morning game.
CARROLL vs PROVIDENCE
While the hitting percentage slightly improved for the Saints (.099), the result would be the same in their afternoon contest with Providence.
The Argos were able to take the first set by a score of 25-20. Carroll would respond in the second frame, winning 25-15 behind five kills from
Sidney Gulick (Kalispell, Mont. / SO), but Carroll would not be able to build any momentum, dropping the following two sets, 25-18, 25-17.
Gulick led all Saints with 12 kills, while
Maddie Wilkes finished the afternoon with 17 assists and 19 digs.
Nina Janic led all players, finishing her afternoon with 16 kills for the Argos.
The Saints will get a good night's rest before taking on No. 11 Montana Tech and Montana Western tomorrow afternoon to wrap up the event.
