Men's Track and Field | 04/15/23 | 9:56 PM
Helena, Mont. – Carroll Track & Field celebrated their seniors and competed strongly at the Trudnowski Open this Friday and Saturday at Vigilante Stadium.
The Saints added two A Standard national qualifying marks during the meet: Garrett Kocab in the Shot Put and Reuben Hornby in the Javelin, both personal records and event wins for the men. Kocab's throw served as a precursor to another highlight of the day as he furthered his personal best, school record, and qualifying mark in the Discus, placing first not only in the meet but also vaulting back to the top spot in the nation. It was a stellar weekend overall in the throws with four women setting personal records in the Shot Put (Madison Lewis, Kayla Botkin, Abigail Peterson, and Kinley Hamilton). Kocab and Tim Sellars also had lifetime bests in the Hammer on Friday.
Brett Glaser won the Frontier Conference Championship in the Decathlon with his highest point total ever. He set personal records in several events along the way including Discus and Javelin. The mark places him 5th nationally, putting him in a position to potentially compete at the NAIA Outdoor Championships if he remains in the Top 16 over the next several weeks.
Multiple other men had strong performances. Tate Kauffman won the Triple Jump and set a personal record in the High Jump. Bodie Smith ran a personal best in the 400 Hurdles, an event he is adjusting to from the high school hurdle distance of 300m. Connor O'Hara, Zach Rector, and Daniel Koralweski all ran lifetime bests in the 5000m. Carroll won the 4x400m Relay with a strong anchor leg from Kaiden Romney.
On the women's side, as part of the Frontier Conference Championship, Sorren Reese completed her first college Heptathlon and placed 5th overall. The Carroll women won eight events in total: the 4x800m Relay, 200m (Paige Baxstresser), 400m (Baxstresser), 800m (Sydney J Lamb), 5000m (Katelyn McKay), 100 Hurdles (Kamden Hilborn), High Jump (Madde Boles), and Discus (Botkin).
Baxstresser's 200m was a personal record. Erika Arthur and Gabby Rinker set lifetime bests in the 1500m, and Dylan Stearns had a great meet with her fastest time ever in the 5000m. Chloe Gallagher (Pole Vault) and Katelyn Christensen (Javelin) approached B Standard national qualifying marks in their respective events.
"It was an amazing day out there across multiple event areas," said Head Coach Harry Clark. "The good weather helped, and we're building momentum right when we need to be," he added.
