LA GRANDE, Ore. - The Carroll College Softball team is back on the diamond for yet another road series, taking on No. 25 Eastern Oregon over the next two days in La Grande, Ore.
The Fighting Saints (12-15, 8-7) enter the series on the heels of an impressive three-game sweep over Corban, while Eastern Oregon (18-9, 9-5) comes in off of a split with No. 12 College of Idaho on Tuesday.
Carroll is accustomed to being road warriors at this point of the year, having traveled seemingly every weekend. This week's trip to La Grande is one of the longer bus rides that the Saints have to endure over the course of the season.
Last weekend's sweep of Corban vaulted the Saints into postseason contention. Carroll's 8-7 mark in conference play sees them sitting in the sixth position in the Cascade Collegiate Conference standings, the last spot that would qualify for postseason play. They will be looking for a strong finish to the back half of their schedule, starting with this weekend's series in Oregon.
Kaitlynn Ayers (Twin Falls, Idaho / JR) had a terrific weekend in Salem last week. The junior hit .407 on the weekend, bringing in five RBI on eight hits - including four doubles, and a home run. Carroll hopes that Ayers' hot streak continues into the series with the No. 25 Mountaineers.
Both Friday and Saturday's doubleheaders will follow the same schedule, with first pitch of the opening game slated for 12 p.m. (MDT), followed by a 2 p.m. start for the second game of each day.
