Carroll Softball Finishes Opening Weekend at .500

MINOT, N.D. - The Carroll College Softball team wrapped up a successful first weekend of play at the Bubble Invite in Minot, N.D., falling to NCAA Division II University of Mary, and beating Dakota Wesleyan on Sunday.

The Fighting Saints (2-2) played an early game to start the day on Sunday, eventually falling 6-1 to the University of Mary.

The morning game was scoreless through three innings, until Jessica Nimmo (Las Vegas, Nev. / SR) blasted the first home run of the young season for the Saints. Her solo shot put Carroll on top 1-0.

Unfortunately for the Saints, Mary would respond in a big way in the fifth inning, scoring six runs in the bottom half of the fifth and running away with a 6-1 win.

Offense was hard to come by for the Saints, who only had four hits in the game. Abby Hanley (Las Vegas, Nev. /SR) allowed only six hits over her four innings of work on the mound.

Carroll quickly regrouped for their second game of the day against Dakota Wesleyan, and would rid the taste of defeat in a hurry.

The second game of the day was an offensive explosion for the Saints. Carroll would score 13 runs and leave the bubble with their second win of the season.

Kaitlynn Ayers (Twin Falls, Idaho / JR) had an outstanding day, finishing her day 2-3 with four RBI and three runs scored. The junior First Basemen provided a two-run homerun in the sixth inning to get the saints into double-figures on the afternoon.

Jessica Nimmo went 2-4 with 2 RBI and Janey Adair (Laramie, Wyo. / FR) picked up her first collegiate win, allowing just two hits over four innings of work.

Carroll will return to the bubble in two weeks for another weekend of action before Cascade Collegiate Conference play begins at the end of the month.
