MINOT, N.D. - The Carroll College Softball split a pair of afternoon games against NCAA Division II teams at the second Bubble Invite, hosted by Minot State, on Saturday.
The Fighting Saints (2-2) played a rare game against Montana competition on Saturday, taking on MSU Billings in their first game of the weekend.
Carroll flashed the bats early in the game, scoring four runs in the top of the second inning, and never looking back.
Amber Brewer (Peoria, Ariz. / SR) blasted a two run homer to give the Saints the 4-0 lead heading into the bottom half of the second.
The Yellowjackets managed to get two runs back in the bottom half of the second, but Carroll would respond. The Saints would score five runs over the next four innings, while only allowing one run in on a solo shot from MSU Billings' Marin Penny in the sixth.Â
Carroll put an emphatic finish on the game in the seventh inning, exploding for six additional runs to cruise to a 15-4 win.
Amber Brewer tripled in the seventh, completing one of the more difficult tasks in sport, hitting for the cycle. The Senior outfielder went 5-5 with five RBI's and four runs scored.
Amber Countryman (Helena, Mont. / SO) went 2-3 with three RBI's and three runs.Â
Abby Hanley (Las Vegas, Nev. / SR) and
Abbie Amend (Spokane, Wash. / FR) combined for 12 strikeouts, with Amend getting credit as the winning pitcher.
Fortune would not favor the Saints in their second game of the day against Bemidji State.
Powered by a five-run second inning, and a three-run fourth inning, the Beavers would go on to win a shortened five inning game, 8-0.
Carroll could not get the bats going in the second game, going just 6-20 as a team.
The Saints will look to rebound tomorrow afternoon, and head into Cascade Collegiate Conference play with a winning record when they take on host-school Minot State at 12 p.m. MST.
