No. 5 Carroll Women Drop Tight Game at Arizona Christian, 77-74

GLENDALE, Arizona - The Carroll Women's Basketball team dropped their second game of the season in a tight 77-74 loss at Arizona Christian on Saturday evening.

The Fighting Saints (1-2) could not seem to find an answer for the Firestorm's (4-1) Lauren Gunn, who put up video game numbers in the close Carroll loss.

Carroll led after one quarter of play, 14-12, with Jamie Pickens (Helena, Mont. / SR) and Kyndall Keller (Havre, Mont. / SR) combining for ten points.

A cold-shooting second quarter (28.6%) for the Saints, paired with a red-hot Firestorm offense (62.5 FG%) would see the Saints trail at the break, 40-35.

Lauren Gunn had 17 first half points for ACU, and was just getting started, her 12 third quarter points nearly matched that of the entire Carroll team, and the Firestorm would lead 59-49 heading into the final quarter.

The Saints, trailing by 10, would make a late game push, outscoring the Firestorm 25-18 in the fourth behind 17 combined points from Keller and WIlla ALbrecht (Billings, Mont. / JR), but they would simply run out of time, eventually falling 77-74.

All things considered, the Saints' performance would be enough to win most games, four players posted double-digit points, the team finished with 24 offensive rebounds, and only had six turnovers. They simply ran into a buzzsaw of an individual performance from ACU's Gunn.

Gunn's unreal afternoon would see her post a final stat-line of 38 points, eight rebounds, and two assists.

Kyndall Keller led the Saints in scoring, finishing with 18 points, while Willa Albrecht (17 points, 13 rebounds) and Jamie Pickens (14 points, 12 rebounds) each posted double-doubles in the loss.

The Saints will look to erase the loss from their minds, and bounce back with a Monday afternoon matchup at Embry-Riddle.
