HELENA, Mont. - The Carroll College Volleyball team gave Montana Tech a good fight on Friday night at the PE Center, but ultimately fell in four sets.
The Fighting Saints (5-16, 0-5) just couldn't quite find a way to close out sets on Friday, falling to Montana Tech (15-3, 4-1).
All four sets in Friday night's tilt were tightly contested, with both teams scoring at least 20 points in all four frames and the largest margin of victory being only four points.
The first set was a game of runs, with each team taking turns scoring four or more points in a row. After allowing the Saints to rattle off three straight points while on set point, Montana Tech would close out set one 25-22.
The Orediggers would score four straight at the end of the second frame to take the set 25-21, and looked like they were on their way to to a sweep.
Carroll had other plans. The Saints rallied at the end of the third frame, scoring the set's final three points en route to a 25-22 win to make the match 2-1.
Unfortunately for the Saints, they couldn't keep the momentum rolling and Montana Tech would escape with a 25-23 win in the fourth to take the match 3-1.
Sidney Gulick (Kalispell, Mont. / SO) had an outstanding night for the Saints, finishing with a game-high 18 kills.
Norah Allen (Great Falls, Mont. / FR) finished with 25 assists, and
Julia Carr (Portland, Ore. / SR) posted 29 digs.
Tech's Rhys Layton led all players with 42 assists, and led her team with 18 digs.
The Saints will have a two week break before their next game, a home match with Rocky Mountain College on October 20.
