HELENA, Mont. - The Carroll College Men's Soccer team toppled (RV) College of Idaho, 3-1 in what could be one of the best wins in program history on Saturday at Nelson Stadium.
The Fighting Saints (6-2-2, 6-1-1) outplayed the Yotes (7-2-2, 6-1-1) for a full 90 minutes this afternoon, and now find themselves at the top of the Cascade Collegiate Conference standings.
Enrico Paparelli (Sao Paulo, Brazil / FR), the Saints' hottest player as of late, provided some early fireworks for Carroll. Paparelli scored a breakaway goal just five minutes into the game to give Carroll the 1-0 advantage.
Dani Alejos would score the equalizer for the Yotes in the 15th minute, but things would be all Carroll for the remainder of the game.
Local product, and team captain,
Caleb Hoxie (Helena, Mont. / SR) continued his great play. Hoxie provided the Saints with what would end up being the game winner, putting Carroll up 2-1 in the 28th minute off of assists from
Matt Wigton (Annapolis, Md. / SR) and
Ryan Quinn (Helena, Mont. / SR).Â
The Saints played stifling defense in the second half, and goalkeeper Juan Muniz Navarette (Hermiston, Ore. / SO) erased any potential opportunities that the Yotes tried to create.
With the win, Carroll now sits tied at the peak of the CCC leader board in October for the first time in program history.
Next weekend, Carroll will host Oregon Tech and Southern Oregon on Friday and Saturday in what will be their final home contests of the 2023 season.
