HELENA, Mont. - The Carroll Men's Soccer team saw a two goal advantage slip away, and played to a 2-2 draw with Oregon Tech on Friday afternoon at Nelson Stadium.
The Fighting Saints (6-2-3, 6-1-2) couldn't quite find a way to close out what should have been their seventh CCC victory, allowing the Owls (7-3-3, 5-2-2) to even things up in the second half en route to a tie.
Carroll was the more aggressive side in the early stages of the game. The Saints finished the first half with 10 shots to OIT's six.
In the 20th minute, fortune would favor the Saints. An Owl defender would loft a ball into a spot where no one, including the Oregon Tech keeper, could reach. The own goal would give Carroll a 1-0 lead heading into the halftime break.
In the 62nd minute, Carroll would double their lead. A streaking
Enrico Paparelli (Sao Paulo, Brazil / FR) played a beautiful long ball across the box to a wide open
Luke Rosenberger (Eau Claire, Wisc. / SR). Rosenberger played the cross perfectly, touching it past the Owl keeper to extend the lead.
An unfortunate flick into a Carroll defender's hand near the baseline would provide OIT with a penalty kick opportunity in the 75th minute. Andrew Pasang would capitalize, and cut the Carroll lead to 2-1.
Just three minutes later, disaster would strike for the Saints.Â
A long throw, deep into the Carroll box would knick a Carroll player, and find its way into the net. The game's second own goal would even things up at 2-2 where the game would ultimately finish.
Carroll will look to shake the sloppy second half off, and prepare for tomorrow's 2 p.m. contest with Southern Oregon, a senior day affair.
