HELENA, Mont. - The Carroll College Women's Soccer team were able to battle back from behind and earn a 1-1 draw with Southern Oregon this afternoon at Nelson Stadium in Helena.
The Fighting Saints (9-1-3, 6-1-2) found themselves trailing in the second half of today's game, but found a way to work themselves into a 1-1 draw with the Raiders (6-4-4, 3-1-4).
A scoreless first half was played near the midfield line for the majority of the frame, although each team did have some real scoring chances. The Raiders out-shot the Saints by a light margin, 5-4, in the opening 45 minutes.
A low-hanging sun directly into the Carroll eyes may have aided the game's opening goal. SOU broke the scoreless tie in the 65th minute with a goal from Abby McKean to give the Raiders a 1-0 lead.
Minutes later, the sun would dip behind the mountains to the west and Carroll's attack would intensify immensely.
IN the 72nd minute,
Deanna Lord beat her defender down the right side of the pitch and proceeded to beat the SOU keeper to the low right side to even the match at 1-1.
Carroll continued their heavy attack for the final 10 minutes, but could not quite find a way to add a game-winner, and the Saints would settle for the 1-1 tie.
A road trip to Washington for matches with Evergreen State and Northwest next weekend awaits the Saints.
