HELENA, Mont. - The Carroll College Men's Soccer team fell in a tightly contested 1-0 game against Southern Oregon on Saturday afternoon at Nelson Stadium.
The Fighting Saints (6-3-3, 6-2-2) couldn't quite find a way to match the Raiders (12-2, 8-1) in a match marred by an abundance of fouls and cards on SOU.
Saturday's contest in Helena was filled with stoppages in play, and the game featured almost no pace due to time wasting efforts from the SOU side.
The Raiders found the game's only goal in the 17th minute, when Bryan Mendoza was able to beat Juan Muniz Navarette (Hermiston, Ore. / SO) to give SOU the 1-0 advantage that the game would finish at.
Southern Oregon accrued card-after-card in the game, with six different players being shown yellow in total.Â
Carroll would up the pressure in the second half, but the Saints were unable to break the Raiders' back line and only managed five total shots in the game.
The Saints' best opportunity came with a
Sean Balen (Mukilteo, Wash. / FR) one-touch attempt, but the freshman's shot sailed just over the cross bar.
Carroll will now focus their attention on a Washington swing next weekend where they will take on both Evergreen State and Northwest.
