No. 18 Carroll Women Cruise to 71-40 Win over Skylights

HELENA, Mont. - The No. 18 Carroll College Women's Basketball team used two explosive quarters to coast to a 71-40 win over MSU-Northern on Saturday at the Carroll College PE Center.

The Fighting Saints (14-5, 5-1) picked up their second one-sided victory in as many games on Saturday, beating MSU-Northern (7-12, 0-6) 71-40 in Helena.

The Carroll offense, with the return of point guard Kamden Hilborn (Clancy, Mont. / GR), who missed Thursday's game with an injury, was firing on all cylinders in the opening quarter. Jamie Pickens (Helena, Mont. / SR) was dominant in the frame, scoring 12 first-quarter points to propel the Saints to a 27-13 lead after one.

The second quarter would not be nearly as efficient for either team. Neither team shot above 30 percent from the field as a team in the second quarter (Carroll - 29 percent, MSU-N - 25 percent). The Saints would, however, manage to outscore the Skylights again, extending their lead to 18 points at the break.

The third quarter was all Carroll, as the Saints outscored the Skylights 25-5 in the frame. Carroll held MSU-Northern to just 20 percent shooting in the third quarter. Kyndall Keller (havre, Mont. / JR) and Maddie Geritz (Boise, Idaho / R-SR) each scored six in the third for Carroll.

The Skylights would outscore the Saints 15-8 in the final quarter, on the back of Savannah Toms' 10 points, but the effort would be far too little, too late, and Carroll would walk away with the 71-40 win.

Three out of the five Carroll starters finished with double-digit points, and Jamie Pickens posted a game-high 20 points alongside eight rebounds. Genesis Wilkinson (Lake Moses, Wash. / SR) added 10 points off of the bench as well.

Carroll will now turn their attention towards a showdown with fellow Frontier Conference front-runner, No. 12 Montana Western, next Thursday in Dillon.
