BELLEVUE, Neb. - The Carroll College Volleyball team wrapped up play at the Labor Day Classic in Bellevue, Neb., losing to Valley City State 3-2, and Benedictine 3-1.
It was a rough go for the Saints in their Midwest swing this weekend. The Saints, who entered the weekend ranked No. 20 in the NAIA Coaches' Poll were unable to come home with a victory.
Carroll played Valley City State to open the morning, looking for a bounce back after yesterday's performance.Â
The Saints took the first set handily, 25-14, before dropping set two, 25-19. Carroll was able to win the third set 25-23, but could not close out the match, dropping sets four and five, 25-18 and 15-12.
Carroll was led by its trio of Frontier Conference Players of the week in the first match.
Elizabeth Heuiser (Helena, Mont. / SO) led the way with 17 kills,
Julia Carr (Portland, Ore. / JR) finished with 33 digs,
Hannah Schweikert (Columbia Falls, Mont. / SO) had a terrific match, finishing with 52 assists.
The Second Match of the day would not go Carroll's way. The Saints were only able to win one set, dropping to Benedictine 3-1.
Katherine McEuen had a strong afternoon, finishing match two with 15 kills to pace the Saints. Schweikert again led Carroll in assists with 42, while
Mara Lynch (Bozeman, Mont. / JR) led with 21 digs in the afternoon match.
Carroll will return to Helena for an extended practice period over the next two weeks. The Saints' next set of matches will come at the Frontier Conference Tune Up on Sept. 15-17.
