BELLEVUE, Neb. - The No. 20 Carroll College Volleyball team dropped a pair of matches today at the Labor Day Classic, losing to MidAmerica Nazarene 3-2, and Ottawa (Kan.) 3-1.
It was a rough day for the Saints in Nebraska, as they were unable to pick up a win in either of their two matches.
In the first Match against MNU, Carroll found themselves in a hole early, dropping the first set 25-18. The Saints would go on to win the next two sets, 25-20, 25-17, but were unable to close out the Pioneers. MNU would go on to win sets four and five, 25-16 and 16-14.
Carroll had some terrific individual performances in the loss. Katherine Mceuen (Spokane, Wash. / SR) led the way with 14 kills, followed by Frontier Conference Offensive Player of the Week
Elizabeth Heuiser (Helena, Mont. / SO) with 13. Frontier Conference Setter of the Week
Hannah Schweikert (Columbia Falls, Mont. / SO) finished with 24 assists, and NAIA Defensive Player of the Week
Julia Carr (Portland, Ore. / JR) tallied 24 digs in the first match.
The second match would prove to be much of the same for the Saints. They lost the first set 25-20, but bounced back to win set two, 25-21. Ottawa would pull away in the third and fourth sets, finishing off the Saints, 25-22 and 25-16.
Katherine McEuen was once again a bright spot for the Saints, totalling 15 kills in the second match, to finish with 29 on the day.
The Saints will regroup and get ready for another two matches tomorrow, as they play Valley City State and Benedictine to wrap up play at the Labor Day Classic.
