Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Saints Men's Soccer Survives Late Push, Beats Providence 2-1

HELENA, Mont. - The Carroll College Men's Soccer Team earned their first official win of the 2022 season, defeating Providence 2-1 in a match played Tuesday night in Nelson Stadium.

After several unofficial matches to open the Fall, the Saints found a way to survive a late Providence attack and secure a non-conference win in front of their home crowd.

The unusual late start time provided a terrific back drop for a heated match. The game started with a bang, literally, when in the third minute Providence's Tomeu Nebot found himself alone in the box. Nebot fired a shot on goal that rattled off the cross-bar and sailed out of play.

Play settled down, with neither team making much of a push, until the twentieth minute. Forward Rory Bloy (Johannesburg, South Africa / SR) broke free from the Argo defense and managed to beat the keeper low-left to put the Saints on top, 1-0.

In the 38th minute, Midfielder Phillip Camacho (Bullhead City, Ariz. / FR) joined in on the fun, scoring the first goal of his collegiate career, and extending the Carroll lead to 2-0.

Just three minutes later, Providence's Gavin Bissell capitalized on a defensive blunder, scoring for the Argos and bringing the score to 2-1 heading into the halftime break.

The second half of the game would get a little messy. Both teams, eager to compete early in the season, ramped up the physicality. Each team's physical play resulted in multiple cards being given to each squad.

One such card led to a penalty kick attempt for Caleb Hoxie (Helena, Mont. / JR). Providence Keeper Sam Fingers was able to deflect the shot back into play, leading to a great look for David Macy (Vincenza, Italy / SR), but his shot sailed high.

Providence would spend the majority of the final 15 minutes in Carroll territory, but the Saints were able to withstand the attack and close out the 2-1 Victory.

Carroll will turn its attention towards the weekend, travelling to Eastern Washington with matches against Whitman and Whitworth on Saturday and Sunday.
