HELENA, Mont. - The Carroll College Women's Soccer team tied with Mount Royal University 1-1 Saturday evening at Nelson Stadium. 

The two teams played to a stalemate for the first fifteen minutes, until a sudden burst of action, starting with a goal by Sydney Danielwicz of Mount Royal in the sixteenth minute of play.

Not even a full minute later, Carroll returned the favor by capitalizing on a foul at the outer edge of the box that resulted in a penalty kick. Emily Funseth (Great Falls, Mont. / JR) put the shot away for the Saints at the start of the seventeenth minute to knot the score at its final 1-1 line. 

The second half was back and forth with numerous opportunities for both sides, but nothing that resulted in a ball in the back of the net. 

Melissa Dugger (Billings, Mont. / SR), Amaya Winkler (Billings, Mont. / SR) , and Funseth were all aggressive for the Saints' frontline, attempting three shots each.

On the other side of the ball, Mount Royal registered fifteen shots between Catriona McFadden and Sydney Danielwicz. 

Luckily for the Saints, Goalkeeper Sarah Conway (Belt, Mont. / SR) came up with a total of eight saves to hold the Cougars to a single goal. 

The Saints will host University of Lethbridge tomorrow, August 21st, at Nelson Stadium in Helena as they continue to assess where they are early on in the 2022 season.
