Game Recap: Softball |

Carroll Softball earns split with Argos behind Hanley's dominant outing

HELENA, Mont. – The Carroll Softball team split a double-header with the Providence Argos on Tuesday afternoon at Centennial Park. The Saints won the first game 1-0 in walk-off fashion before falling 21-9 in the second game. Game one was a Cascade Conference game and game two was non-conference.

Abby Hanley picked up the Saints in the first game with a nearly spotless performance. The junior ace pitched seven shutout innings, tallying nine strikeouts and only allowing just one hit.

The game was knotted up in a 0-0 tie in the seventh inning, until Amber Countryman reached on an error and Ellie Koerber scored to walk the game off.

Game two had a lot more fireworks than the first, with the Argos scoring eight runs in the first inning.

The Saints were able to stitch together nine runs, getting one or more RBIs from Anna Davidson, Rachel Vance, Kenna Thomas, Ellie Koerber, and Sydnee Paul. However, the Argo bats stayed hot and they went on to take the second game 21-9 and earn the split.

Carroll will wrap up their regular season schedule this Saturday and Sunday against Eastern Oregon. The games will be played at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. both days.
