HELENA, Mont. – The Carroll Softball team wrapped up their 2022 campaign on Saturday, winning one out of three in a triple-header against Eastern Oregon at Centennial Park. The Saints took the first game of the day by a score of 6-2, before dropping the second and third game 6-4 and 6-1 respectively.
The Mountaineers got the scoring started in the third inning of game one, notching two runs on a home-run. Carroll countered that in the bottom of the fourth when
Anna Davidson cut it to a one-run ball game with a solo shot to centerfield.
In the fifth inning, the Saints blew the game open with a five-run frame. They loaded up the bases, moved a couple runs across the plate on a fielder's choice and an error, then
Amber Brewer added the exclamation point with a two-RBI double.
Abby Hanley stayed steady in the circle, and the Saints closed the door on the first game with a 6-2 victory.
In the second game, Carroll started out with a bang.
Amber Countryman stepped into the box in the first inning and blasted a three-run shot, scoring
Rachel Vance and Kaitlyn Ayers.
The game appeared to be a pitchers duel until the fifth inning, when EOU tallied a run on a Kayla Berg RBI double.
An RBI-groundout off the bat of
Josie Barker put the Saints up 4-1 headed into the final frame, but the Mountaineers pushed five runs across in the top of the seventh to take a 6-4 lead and they went on to win the game by that score.
The third game consisted of some more early scoring. Carroll struck first with
Abby Hanley crossing the dish on a passed ball.
That would be the last run scored on the day for the Saints, with Eastern Oregon tacking on six unanswered runs in the final three innings to win the third game 6-1.
Three games were played on Saturday due to the upcoming weather forecast. The fourth game of the series, which would have been a non-conference game, will not be played which means the 2022 season has come to a close. The Saints wrap up with a total record of 14-31, highlighted by big wins against CCC powers Eastern Oregon and Oregon Tech.
